Root canal treatment

Inside your tooth, beneath the white enamel and a hard layer called dentin, is a soft tissue called pulp. This tissue contains blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue, which help grow the root of your tooth during its development. A fully developed tooth can survive without the pulp because the tooth continues to be nourished by the tissues surrounding it.
A cavity in the tooth leaves an opening where bacteria can enter and multiply. Left without treatment, these bacteria cause infections, causing severe pain and swelling that could eventually lead to spread to surrounding regions of the face.
A root canal treatment is a procedure done to treat and save a tooth that is infected or badly decayed.
Procedure
1. Anesthesia is given to numb the tooth
2. A small opening is made to access the root canal contents
3. Removal of the contents in the root canal cavity
4. Cleaning and sealing the infected area inside the tooth

Do I need a crown after RCT
Crowns are the standard of care in dental health after completing a root canal. Root canal treated teeth get brittle because they are no longer nourished and hydrated from the inside. Over time they will fracture without a crown. Hence, a crown or cap helps to strengthen and protect your tooth from further damage
